Google has always been a search engine giant, and they show no signs of slowing down. In 2022, they made several announcements that will change the search landscape. Here are the most important things you need to know.
Multisearch expanding
In the coming months, Google is expanding multisearch to 70 new languages. Multisearch was launched by Google last year for English and U.S.-based queries. What is Google’s multisearch. Google’s multisearch feature allows you to use your camera phone to search by image, powered by Google Lens, and then add an additional text query on top of the image search. You will then see visual search results from Google, based on both the image and text query. How does Google multisearch work? On Android or iOS, open the Google app and click on the Google Lens camera icon on the right side of the search box. Point the camera at something nearby, use a photo from your camera, or even take a picture of something on your screen. After you find what you’re looking for, swipe up on the results to bring it up, and tap the “+ Add to your search” button. You can add text to your photo query in this box.
Multisearch near me coming soon
At last year’s Google I/O, Google previews multisearch near me. Google is planning to launch a new feature in English and U.S. search results in the next few months. Google said that it will launch in late fall of 2022. What is multisearch near me? The “near me” aspect lets you not only find products or anything via your camera, but also to find local results. If you want to find a restaurant that has a specific dish, you can do so.
Google Lens translated text now cleaner
Google Lens is so much fun because you can point your camera at text in almost any setting and translate that text. Google Lens is going to present translated text in a cleaner and more blended approach. This will launch later this year. The translated text is presented better by Google using generative adversarial networks, also known as GAN models. The “Magix Eraser” feature on photos uses the same technology as Google’s Pixel devices.
New Search refinements
New search refinements and aids are also being rolled out by Google for when you search in autocomplete and within the search results. As you type your query, Google will present tappable words to build your query on the fly. You can build queries by simply tapping on words.
More visual information
Some queries on Google are now yielding more visually designed results. This allows you to explore more information about topics around travel, people, animals, plants, and so on. The Google search engine will provide users with a variety of results for their query including visual stories, short videos, tips, and suggestions for things to do. This UX will also have Google visually highlighting the more relevant information.
Explore as you scroll
The more you scroll through the Google Search results, the less relevant they become. Google should be ranking the most relevant information at the top, which makes sense. Google has added a new explore feature to give searchers inspiration around their query, but not something that exactly matches their query. This new explore feature enables searchers to learn topics beyond their original query.
Discussion and forums
Next year, Google will be launching a way to find translated news coverage for both local and international news stories. When using Google Search, translated headlines from news publishers in other languages will appear. You will get “authoritative reporting from journalists” directly from the country that is touched by that specific news story. “Translated by Google” appears next to the headlines in this screenshot:

Google is also expanding the About this result feature to show if the search result has been personalized. In any way that the search results are personalized, Google will now show you.
